Past Academic Projects
1. Digital Watermarking for videos
2005 – 2006 (B.Tech final year project)
•Aim: To develop a new spatial domain watermarking system for videos by studying and analyzing an existing spatial domain watermarking algorithm outlined in “Spatial Domain Digital Watermarking of Multimedia objects for Buyer Authentication” IEEE Trans. on Multimedia, Vol. 6, No. 1, Feb. 2004 .
•We tried implementing the algorithm in MATLAB 6.0 and analyzed where it had failed. With the help of (2, 2) VSS Scheme, we provided an extra layer of security to patch up its weakness and extended the algorithm to frames of videos. The algorithm introduced a concept of Buyer key and image key. The new algorithm was implemented in MATLAB 6.0 with the help of Image Processing Toolbox. It performed well: the watermarking process was completed in a fraction of seconds and the buyer key was recovered from the attacked video in about the same time.
2. Countermeasures against SPA or DPA attacks by using SASC protocols
January – March 2006
(As an intern (remotely) at Laboratory of Cryptography and Computer Security, NCU, Taiwan)
•Investigated countermeasures against SPA or DPA attacks by potentially using SASC protocol for RSA.

3. Visual Cryptography on Secured Password Management
Aug 2005 – Oct 2005 (As remote intern at Spansion, Munich)
•Developed software protocol for the demo on Visual Cryptography and for user scenario of its application for secure password management.
4. Summer Internship, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB)
May – July 2005
•Developed an new HTML parser in Java on the basis of findings of weakness of existing parser offor Newsrack: http://newsrack.in NewsRack is a tool/service for classifying, filing, and long-term archiving of news based on user specified filtering rules, and is registered at SourceForge.
•Carried out database design for the website backend. Designed all the tables and schema in MySQL, replacing the old static-file based system.

Past Independent Projects
1. FavoursBank - Now scrapped the project!
It was an American writer who first mentioned it. It's the most powerful bank in the world, and you'll find it in every sphere of life. For example: I know you are an up-and-coming entrepreneur and that, one day, you'll be very influential. I know this because, like you, I too was once ambitious, independent, honest. I no longer have the energy I once had, but I want to help you because I can't or don't want to grind to a halt just yet. I'm not dreaming about retirement, I'm still dreaming about the fascinating struggle that is life, power, and glory, I start making deposits in your account - not cash deposits, you understand, but contacts. I introduce you to such and such a person; I arrange certain deals, as long as they're legal. You know that you owe me something, but I never ask you for anything.
One day, I'll ask you for a favour and you could, of course, say "No", but you're conscious of being in my debt. You do what I ask, I continue to help you, and other people see that you're a decent, loyal sort of person and so they too make deposits in your account = always in the form of contacts, because this world is made up of contacts and nothing else. They too will one day ask you for a favour, and you will respect and help the people who have helped you, and, in time, you'll have spread your net worldwide, you'll know everyone you need to know and your influence will keep on growing.
What if I could refuse to do what you ask me to do?
You could. The Favour Bank is a risky investment, just like any other bank. You refuse to grant the favour I asked you, in the belief that I helped you because you deserved to be helped, because you're the best and everyone should automatically recognize your talent. Fine, I say thank you very much and ask someone else into whose account I've also made various deposits; but from then on, everyone knows, without me having to say a word, that you are not to be trusted. You'll grow only half as much as you could have grown, and certainly not as much as you would have liked to. At a certain point, your life will decline, you have got halfway, but not all the way, you are half-happy and half-sad, neither frustrated nor fulfilled. You're neither cold or hot, you're lukewarm, and as an evangelist in some holy book says: "Lukewarm things are not pleasing to the palate."'
FavoursBank.com will try to incorporate the similar idea by tapping the existing potential of people present in terms of online community. It will act as an interface between the person who wants a favour and the person who is ready to extend his favour by providing a simple, easy and user friendly web interface. It will try to incorporate all the topics from different regions of the society. The whole website will be community driven.
2. itsucks.com - Concept. Site doesnot exists right now!
We believe that life is not perfect and hence there is at least one thing that sucks! It can be anything – your college, your roommate or your computer or simply life sucks! Sometimes these things sucks so much that you want to discuss this stuff with those who feels in the same way. There could be the person but they might not be in the same state or might have from the same situation. You also might want to destroy that stuff temporarily. But you cannot as you know, if you destroy it, it will be harmful to you after you get over your frustration.
The idea works on the psychology of the person. If the person can express his/her frustration, he will be happy. If he will not be, he will not be happy. Our aim is just to make you happy. In this journey, you will meet likeminded people who will share the frustration and it will be a fun activity. We will provide a dummy object which represents the person and you can have destroying in any possible manner you want.
So, no matter what sucks – either it’s your roommate or your girl friend, you can always find such people at itsucks.
Please read more about it at : http://jai.ism.googlepages.com/itsucks.pdf
3. Automated SMS Alert for To-Do's
URL: http://jaikishan-1.at.vwdhosting.net/reminder/index.aspx (Valid till July 24.)
Current - June 18, 2007
Aim: To develop a system which can automatically send SMS to the subscriber about his to-do's activity.
Motivation: How cool it would be if somebody ( like a virtual online assistant ) will keep on reminding me of my daily activities by sending me a SMS automatically on my blackberry. How cool it would be if my online assistant can also send me brithday reminders of my relatives and friends when I am busy. How cool it would be if also it can also provide me option to send cake/flower/card to the bday person and do it for me.
Current Situation: The web interface is ready. The system has been built in .NET with the backend database in XML. I am currently looking for webservices/ techniques via which I can talk to SMS gateway for free. Download the code
Interested in working on this project? Please drop me an email at jai.ism@gmail.com. You must know C#.NET, ASP.NET, XML, Webservices. Knowledge of SMS Gateway will be a plus!
